The big excavation on the hill top is clearly visible to the left. Approximately in the middle of the hill site are diagonal and cross trenches.
In the foreground is the Southern Terrace. The roofed off area covers an open trench. The roof has been removed and the trench covered with a movable screen, to enable visitors to see the deposit underneath.
Directly behind the roof is the slab of sandstone forming Pik se Gat. To the right of Pik se Gat, is Sentinel Rock.
On the other side of Mapungubwe Hill is the Northern Plateau. Signs of livestock enclosures and habitation were recovered in this area closest to the Hill.
